Tell us about Hiss From The Moat?
Hiss From The Moat was born in 2007 from the idea of James Payne and other components of the band that are not in anymore. The band comes from a small Italian town and managed to play shows all over Europe in a really short time, supporting band such as War From A Harlots Mouth,The Black Dahlia Murder,Cephalic Carnage and many more.
After a year the band went in the studio to record the first 7 song EP intitled “The Carved Flesh Message” which, for recording problems came out only in 2010 when the band was in a dead period.
Nowadays Hiss From The Moat is a side project for James and Carlo (bass player for Tasters too) and they’ve come out with a new album intitled “Misanthropy” with some special guests such as Tommaso Riccardi, singer for Fleshgod Apocalypse. The album will be released in 2013 and will definitely be more death/black metal, since the band decided to leave behind the deathcore sound and do what they really like, being inspired from Behemoth,Dimmu Borgir,Dark Funeral,Vader ecc…
Tell us about your first EP ?
The first EP was written from the first line up and was a mix of breakdowns and technical death metal,it never had a real release since after the recording session we had some problems on the mix and after that the band stopped playing regulary with some of the components leaving.
With the release of the new album we will for sure play some old songs in the set list, maybe faster…
What impact the Hiss From The Moath when James also joined the Hour Of Penance ?
Nothing really changed, they are two separate projects and if Hour of Penance fan will like it we will be more then happy, but we don’t want to be associated to Hour of Penance since this album has been written in 2010/2011 when James wasn’t playing with them .
What make Hiss From The Moat play death metal ?
We got inspired from a lot of Death/Black Metal bands, as I said before, and wanted to create something that could send a message too, infact the coming out album will be a concept album where it’s explained how the image of Christ and Satan can be very similar for the way humanity uses them. We basically put together our knowledge on the instruments, what we’ve been inspired from and what we want to communicate and this is what comes out.
Plans for a new album ?
We haven’t really got plans yet, neither expectations, we just do this because we like playing music and needed something where we can express ourselves, if people like it,then maybe we’ll have some plans thanx to them,if not,we’ll just go on and write new music for the passion of doing it.
Do you guys always enjoying while on tour?
We are really good friends so life on tour it’s easy for us,we just have fun. It’s easyer to live day by day in a van and sharing the same backstages with a bunch of friends rather than with someone you only see in rehearsals and when you play shows, how it can happen in other bands, so yes,we always enjoy being on tour. Also staying away from that little shitty hole of a town we live in, gives us hope for the future.
Tell us the band most memorable experience while on tour?
Probably supporting big bands were the coolest moments of our career, but since we didn’t have the chance to tour a lot we don’t have particularly memorable experinces to tell yet. The most memorable thing for us is having been able to get out from our small towns and make ourselves known all over the world.
What can we expect from Hiss From The Moat for next ?
A burst of brutality, blast beats, death and black metal riffs mixed with an Anti-Church mentality and lyrics
Who is the band influence?
Satanica,Thelema.6,Zos Kia Cultus,Demigod and Evangelion from Behemoth,Puritanical Euphoric Misathropia from Dimmu Borgir, Vobiscum Satans from Dark Funeral,I,Monarch from Hate Eternal,De Profundis, The Art of War from Vader, Sons of Northen Darkness, All Shall Fall from Immortal, Panzer Division Marduk from Marduk.
Thanks guys, good luck.
